Is Halloween just another excuse to get together and goof off? Why do we carve out perfectly good pumpkins and put fire in them? Why do we have costumes? How did candy and cake and silly games get wrapped up in the mix of this holiday for the dead? Why do we celebrate this day among others? Who the heck knows; but these pictures are good enough reason for me.

An Ensign to the Nations
So, I've lived in Salt Lake most of my life, and have never climbed
Ensign Peak. Not until recently that is. For the first time I ventured the sloping switchbacks of the "nature walk" trail, that to me was a mountain. I made it to the top, with the patience and help of Lori, Dean and Ang. It was so great to see the city from there, and to check that hike off the list.

Box Elder
Coyotes
We were up at the cabin for the long weekend over Labor Day. The kids were running in and out and the moths were following. Before, when the kids had been up at the cabin, they had discussed their fear of Coyotes. Earlier in the day, Alice had told us that there were Coyotes in the cabin. We told her that Coyotes don't come in Papas cabin. Then, while getting ready for bed, the kids were preparing to sleep on the deck, when the door opened and in flew a moth. I was taking pictures of Alice and Michelle, and all of the sudden Alice yelled "a Coyote, a Coyote", pointing at a moth flying in the cabin. We were laughing so hard. That was when we had to explain that a Coyote is a big scary dog, and the little flying bugs were called moths, an ugly butterfly. Kids say the funniest things.
